POLICIES CONCERNING THE RELATIONSHIP OF RESIDENTIAL AND ONLINE PROGRAMS

Glossary of Terms

  • Directed Study occurs when a student receives a privately tutored course directly from an appropriate representative of the IBC academic community outside of regularly scheduled class meetings.
  • Dual Enrollment occurs when a residential student enrolls in either an IBC online course or a course of any discipline in an institution other than IBC and does so at the same time.
  • IBC Online Course is a course offered via the internet under the authority of IBC.
  • IBC Online Program is a curriculum offered via the internet under the authority of IBC.
  • Institutional Course is a course offered by any institution other than IBC. Normally, this would involve a course a student has been authorized to take to fill a deficiency in his/her residential program. This would typically occur when a course is not being offered by IBC in a time slot available to the student. Authorization for Directed Studies and Institutional Courses is the sole prerogative of the Chief Academic Officer of IBC.
  • Residential Student is one who is enrolled in the morning weekly curriculum at the IBC campus at 2369 Benrus in San Antonio, Texas.

Policies Concerning Dual Enrollment

  • Residential students may not substitute an IBC Online Course for a residential course without a written consent waiver signed by the VP of Academic Affairs. Residential Students may not be enrolled in Institutional Courses at the same time they are enrolled in courses at IBC without a written consent waiver signed by the VP of Academic Affairs. Residential students may be authorized in unique circumstances to take one of the Online Courses instead of receiving a directed study.
  • When a student starts studies as an online student and then desires to transfer into the residential program, the courses completed online with grades of a “C” (2.0) or better will be received one-for-one into the residential program. A student thus transferring must complete at least his/her last semester in residence at IBC.
  • Students wishing to transfer from IBC residential programs to IBC online programs and/or courses will be transferred on a one-for-one basis. The student’s current account balance must be cleared before being approved for the transfer.

Policy for Assurance of Student Identity

All students studying IBC Online Courses must personally accomplish and complete the courses. A student will not be permitted to continue studies if it is discovered that someone other than the student is doing the work the course requires. One method IBC will use to assure student identity is to require the student who is finishing a program to attend the Yearend Convention and Graduation. That student must attend the year he/she successfully completes all program requirements. Exceptions to this rule must have written approval from the IBC VP of Academic Affairs. During the convention the student will be expected to sit for an exit interview with a faculty panel who will examine the student about course work and content material.

Policy Regarding Online Programs

Since IBC is building its Online Courses on the foundation of the work done by Vision International Educational Network and since the courses are not presently synchronized with all of the courses in the residential programs, IBC is offering different online programs than is residential programs. For this reason transferability between residential and online programs occurs on a one-for-one basis.

At a point in the future the present online courses will be replaced with courses more compatible to our residential courses and online and residential courses will become interchangeable.
